Whether you’re putting a new drum set together, or giving an existing one a loving upgrade you have plenty of choice for drum heads. A new drum head will allow you to play around with your set and incorporate different and new sounds. There’s a range of sizes available, from 10 to 32 inches, so you can fit a new drum head to a drum shell you already have, or put together a whole new kit. Drum heads are made clear or coated; clear heads sound brighter, while coated drum heads are more muffled with deeper vibrations. Dotted drum heads are more coated in certain layers, providing a tonal range within one drum, and articulate sound. Once you figure out which drum head type is best for harmonising your set together, you can size it up accordingly and get into the beat.
