Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro gets tougher to last longer
What to expect with the Galaxy Watch5 Pro
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro is best when an active lifestyle is already part of your routine. It is built tougher and bigger for that express purpose, meaning it fits right in when you’re taking it on a journey that will make you sweat.
It only comes in one size: 45mm. That’s a little big for smaller wrists, and at 46 grams in weight, comparatively heavier than the other Galaxy Watch5 models. It’s a different kind of comfort with this Pro model, but you should feel right at home if you prefer your watches to have some heft to them.
The familiarity spreads to how the watch itself runs. Google’s Wear OS is back as the platform the Galaxy Watch5 Pro runs on, yet with Samsung’s own overlay that so strongly resembles the Tizen-based watches of the past. This watch doesn’t have a distinct predecessor, as it is a combination of previous designs, like the Classic and Active, but it doesn’t just drive in one proverbial lane. Change the strap on it and it can go from sporty to stylish just like that.
It also does all the things that don’t involve breaking a sweat, like viewing notifications, messaging, phone calls, music playback, mapping, and payments, among other features. All the sensory technology to track both activity and inactivity are always ready.
How is the Galaxy Watch5 Pro different?
This time around, titanium makes up the watch’s frame for more durable construction and less susceptibility to nicks or scratches. The screen also gets its own rugged upgrade by way of sapphire glass, a tougher and more rigid substance compared to the Gorilla Glass of past models.
With more room also comes a bigger battery. The 590mAh battery inside should extend each charge measured by days rather than hours, reducing some of the anxiety of going hard while wearing the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. You still have the ability to adjust certain features to save battery life as you see fit, like turning off the Always-On display or only using GPS when you need to, for example.
A new Route workout feature will let you import GPX route files to Samsung Health so you can sync them with the watch. Track Back lets you return right back where you started with turn-by-turn directions, a great resource for cyclists and hikers in need of some direction.
Samsung also equipped the Galaxy Watch5 Pro with a new skin temperature sensor that measures whether your skin is running hotter or colder than usual. It can be a clue as to whether you are coming down with a cold or flu if readings are consistently abnormal. Moreover, the BioActive Health sensor has a larger tracking area for improved accuracy across all tracking metrics, including heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen and more.
Who is the Galaxy Watch5 Pro for?
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro almost demands an active lifestyle to truly get the most out of it. It offers over 90 workouts directly from the watch, with a select number automatically kicking in once you get started. Its 5ATM waterproofing means you can wear it diving as deep as 50 metres, including in saltwater. The route tracking is ideal for runners, cyclists, and hikers who want to know everything from point A to point B.
It almost has no limit as to what activity you might have in mind. It could be surfing, rafting, climbing, snowboarding—it doesn’t matter all that much. Even during downtime, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro tracks sleep quality, blood oxygen, and can take blood pressure measurements.
It does come in LTE and Bluetooth variants, depending on how you want to stay connected. You will find it in either titanium black or titanium grey, with a wide variety of other bands and straps that will fit right on it.
