The Surface Laptop Go 3 is not the same as the Surface Go 3. They have similar names but are not the same product because the former is more of a laptop while the latter is more of a tablet. The name says it all, and the Laptop Go 3 is a thinner and lighter notebook that is built to provide balance between content consumption and content creation.

It keeps much of what made the previous Laptop Go 2 a dependable workhorse for those seeking affordable alternatives. Weighing in at 2.5 pounds, it’s light enough to carry with you on a daily commute or on the way to class. With an aluminum body and four colours to choose from (platinum, sage, sandstone and ice blue), this is a laptop that looks like it belongs wherever you set it down and tilt it open.

The 12.4-inch PixelSense Display (1536 x 1024) is not as high-resolution as more expensive laptops, yet it still has the vibrancy and brightness to look appealing for many tasks. The ports will be familiar because they’re right where they were before, so you get one USB-A port, one USB-C, a headphone jack, and the Surface Connect port on the right. Newer additions include the fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and the chance to remove the SSD drive when you want to upgrade the internal storage.

The Surface Laptop Go 3 runs on the 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, which makes this laptop a stronger mid-range choice when it comes to overall performance. There will be varying configurations, though base models will start at 256GB internal storage and 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics are the only GPU options, so the Surface Laptop Go 3 isn’t built to be a robust gaming PC, speaking more to the overall balance it’s built to provide.

The 720p webcam comes with studio-quality mics, as well as Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio. With up to 15 hours of battery life per charge, this laptop works best as a multitasker for apps that can run smoothly with the onboard hardware.

Making the right connections

Microsoft enables the Surface Laptop Go 3 to work together with cross-platform apps. One of the latest examples is Apple’s iCloud Photos, where a new integration feature will allow you to sync over photos and video from iCloud-supported devices in mere seconds now.

Artificial intelligence (AI) features will also benefit from the new hardware. Clipchamp is a unique application that lets you create and edit a video on the laptop with a variety of features to make it look how you want, be it removing backgrounds or using text prompts to generate images in Paint that you can then incorporate in other apps.
