White Cribs
Complete the nursery with a crisp white crib
Choosing the right crib for your nursery
When it comes to selecting a crib for the nursery, you can go with a traditional shade of brown, shake things up with grey, or go traditional, crisp, and bright with a white crib that instantly brightens up the room. They come in a variety of shapes and designs, from retro to contemporary, to suit any style.
Usually, most cribs are a standard size though it's always a good idea to measure your space to ensure it will fit properly. Beyond standard sized cribs, there are also compact mini cribs, ideal for small apartments and nurseries, if the baby's crib will be in the parent's room, or if you simply have limited space.
White cribs are usually made of wood like composite, solid wood, pine, poplar, medium-density fibreboard, or wood veneer with an adjustable mattress height level that can move up to four levels, depending on the crib.
Everything to know about white cribs
White sounds like a standard finish but there are actually a variety of shades, from basic to matte, Bianca white, snow white, and wirebrush white. If you're matching the crib to other nursery furniture, like a dresser or change table, consider going with the same brand to ensure the shades of white aren't slightly, and noticeably, different.
Cribs are the same height all around or have higher backs that can be straight edged, arced, or even bell-shaped. The latter looks nicest if the crib is going to be positioned against a wall.
Get a standard white crib or a convertible. The latter include 4-in-1 models that can transform to a toddler bed, day bed, and full bed, or 6-in-1s that also convert to a sofa. The idea behind these is to be able to use the crib beyond the first year or two, or to repurpose it for another room.
Things to keep in mind before buying a new white crib
If you opt for white convertible crib, you will probably need to buy a conversion kit, with items like a metal bed frame and/or guardrail, in order to turn it into a full bed or sofa. You can't wait and buy this later or get it right away so you're good to go once it's time for the transition.
Most cribs do not include a mattress, with the exception of some mini cribs, so, you'll need to buy one separately. Most standard-sized cribs accommodate standard-sized crib mattresses. To be sure, compare dimensions to confirm that there won't be a gap between the crib and the crib frame and that it will fit snugly.
You'll also need bedding, including a tightly fitted sheet and a crib set for when baby isn't in the crib. The great thing about white cribs is that they match with pretty much anything. Other accessories to consider include crib bumpers, skirts, and mobiles.
