[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this drive so that I could digitize my CD collection of about 150 discs - it has worked very well for that purpose! I use a CD ripping program that can assess the accuracy of ripped song files. With this drive, I have consistently gotten 99.9% and 100.0% quality. It's ripped about 100 discs so far, and I've yet to encounter any problems. Also, the drive is very lightweight, and its interior is durable for how minimalistic it is. Both CDs and DVDs play fine on it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this external DVD-CD Player for my new Dell desktop computer. Most new computers don't have these optical drives built in anymore as most people stream. Good price when on sale. Works well. Just plugged it into the computer with the USB cord that came with it and it played CDs. So no installation except to plug it into the computer USB port. It's solid. Lightweight, 7 ounces. It can also burn CDs and DVDs, but I probably won't have to do that. The only problem was getting the protective film peeled off the new device. Finally, I put a piece of Scotch tape on the film and it loosened it and lifted it up. It was a bit of a hassle to get my local Best Buy store to price match Amazon. I had to go through two cashiers and then a manager. And to find the product in the store I had to ask three associates. The device is a bit noisy. Appearance is nice. Four stars because I haven't burned any CDs or DVDs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is very disappointing. I installed the software included. Immediately was told I needed to upgrade to newer version, OK. After I upgraded I tried to burn video files to a DVD, was told in a pop up window that this feature requires that I purchase an additional feature upgrade for $39.99 What's the point of buyer the DVD ripper if it does not include the appropriate software, its a RIPOFF!. This player is very limited to what it can do without the additional software, IE; play cd's copy files to disc. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DISC DRIVE

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am well satisfied with this Dell external cd writer/player for multiple reasons! Due to absence of burning device on new and many computers, I encountered the necessity of asking my grandson (since he's up to date with technology), to guide me the needed device/s to deal with my "problem" if any. He guided me thru some devices but, when I came to Dell products, I put my trust on this DW316. Purchased price - excellent! Very easy to manage. Easy to "plug and play/burn!." Carrying along with i.e. light, slim and sturdy. Connecting cable included. Well... what can I say... Overall: great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an absolute essential. I purchased a new 2017 Dell Precision 5520 and it did not have a built-in optical drive. I however had a lot of content (including software) on DVD's and wanted to use/install them. This external drive is perfect and does what it says. I am very happy with this optical drive. It is slim enough to carry in my laptop bag and looks good too...

Glad that Best Buy had this very handy plug n play device. Great price, nice slim design and recognized upon plug in to a USB input.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The external drive is just what I needed it works great it does what I needed to do when I need to do it easy to use easy to store I have a mini computer called Zoey and it has no at all DVD players at all so this is just great
