Capturing adventures from all angles
How an action camera mount comes in handy
Action cameras are unlike other cameras in that they can capture a scene from almost any point of view. They can do that because they’re small enough to place almost anywhere you’d want them, and to point them toward wherever the action is going to take place.
Mounts simplify and multiply how you do that. Rather than holding the camera in hand, you can mount it on your person, or on an object that gives footage a true first-hand perspective. With sturdy designs and rigid placement, you’re more likely to come away with video that looks sharp and smooth.
They also come in a wide variety of forms, so no two mounts are always the same. One may be wearable, whereas another may be made to attach to a specific type of surface or object. That level of variance means you can get pretty creative with what kind of shots you’re looking to take with your action camera.
Where an action camera mount works
If there’s a scenario involving action and a camera, there’s a good chance a mount exists to make it happen. Think about a sporting event, outdoor adventure, vacation or breathtaking scene. Using a mount in any of those situations means taking away a passive feature that you shouldn’t need to concern yourself with.
If you’re biking a trail and want to capture both the route and the scenery, mount the camera onto the handlebars. If it’s sailing or rafting, strap a mount onto your body. Place one on a surf or paddleboard to see things from a different viewpoint. Mount it on a car’s roof or hood to capture a road less travelled that also has a beautiful vista as a backdrop. Even if you’re ziplining or bungee jumping, the footage could be exhilarating.
Even on a vacation or exciting trip with plenty to see and document, mounts only make doing that easier. It’s easy enough to mount an action camera onto a selfie stick or tripod. Easier still when you can also control the camera from your smartphone for hands-free directing.
Vlogging and documenting
Vloggers and travellers looking to document their experiences may also benefit from using mounts to position their action cameras. Great footage is sometimes about changing perspectives or angles, and using a mount to do that can add to creating vibrant content.
With different mounts in tow, there are ways to capture a number of scenes without having to compromise too much on placement. It’s easier to find unique ways to record video when there are multiple ways to deploy a camera. Action cameras become a lot more versatile when you mount them in the ways that work best for what you have in your creative mind. Many of the mounts aren’t large in size, either, making it easier to transport them on the go as well.
