Enrobe your baby in soft baby towels or robe after bath time

What types of baby towels and robes are available?

A soft, absorbent baby towel, usually made from cotton or terry material, is essential to remove the water from baby’s body after a bath and keep them warm and cozy until you dress them.

Baby towels come in different sizes, from 12 x 12 up to 30 x 30 ones that can also be used at the beach or picnic. They are usually made from materials like cotton muslin or terry and come in a variety of colours and designs, from solids to patterns like stripes, polka dots, or florals. Hooded towels, sometimes designed as animals like a lion, duck, or frog, keep baby’s head warm and dry, and look super cute.

Usually for toddlers, robes, which sometimes come in cute animal designs as well, fully wrap and secure around the child. Some hooded towels and robes also have pockets for keeping hands toasty warm, too.

What should you look for when buying a baby towel and/or robe?

When buying a baby towel or robe, first check that the material is soft and plush so it will be gentle on baby’s delicate skin. But you also want it to be durable, such that it will last wash after wash, retaining its softness and absorbency.

Speaking of absorbency, a good baby towel should sufficiently dry baby with a few soft wipes and be fast-drying itself. Features like a loop makes it easy to hang the towel to dry on hooks in the bathroom.

Since you will likely bathe baby every second day, it’s wise to have 2 or 3 towels on hand if you only do laundry once a week; though most new parents do laundry much more frequently!

Additional considerations to make with a baby towel or robe

Choose a design, size, and colour of your liking, perhaps one that matches the nursery. Some sets are available that include a towel and matching washcloths all in one.

If you want to also take the towel to the beach or while picnicking in the park, consider a larger one in a colour other than white (or grab a second towel just for the beach). Hoods are always handy, especially for babies with lots of hair that will need drying.

What other products should you consider?

Along with towels and a bath robe, other bath essentials worth looking at include a baby bath tub, bath toys, and skin care products like creams and baby wash. Baby mitts, designed as different animals or creatures, double as hand puppets to make bath time even more fun.

Washcloths are useful for cleaning baby in the bath, or a quick wipe of small areas like under the arms, on the face or tummy after spit-up, or on the nether regions. You can never have too many of those.
