Guitar Tuners

Tuning is an important part of any guitarists’ life, and is imperative in getting to know and playing your instrument well. Listening with your own ears lets you hear and understand what each note should sound like, but most guitarists rely on a guitar tuner to ensure that whether they’re gearing up to practice or to perform, their guitar sounds just right.

Electronic Tuners

Electronic tuners recognize and display the pitch of a note played on a musical instrument. This type of guitar tuner will detect whether the note you’ve played on your guitar is higher, lower, or about the same as the actual pitch, and they use LED lights to help you tune each note.

Standard and Chromatic Tuners

Standard guitar tuners tune to either a single pitch, usually A or E, or to six pitches used in standard tuning: E, A, D, G, B and E. They’re typically small, portable units that are easy to throw in your bag and take on the road. Chromatic guitar tuners let you tune all 12 notes of the scale. Usually more elaborate tuners, they can also come with additional functions, like adjustable pitch calibration or a metronome feature.

Size

Tuners vary in size and complexity, ranging from small, pocket-sized units to those that clip-on to your guitar, table top tuners, or even rack-mount guitar tuners. Having a portable unit is a good idea because you’ll want to tune your guitar where you want to play, whether it’s in your living room, the local coffee shop or in the park.
