What are open box laundry appliances?

Open box laundry appliances aren’t the same as used laundry appliances. They are washers or dryers that were returned by the customer without being used. Perhaps the customer changed their mind or realized the appliance didn’t physically fit in laundry room or didn’t match the home’s décor. Open box laundry appliances are not, as some might believe, laundry appliances that weren’t working properly and had to be fixed. And they have been fully tested to ensure that they are in perfect working order.

There are two main categories of open box laundry appliances, which include open box washers and open box dryers: those in perfect condition, and ones with minor scratches and dents. Perfect condition open box laundry appliances have gone through a detailed inspection after they were returned to ensure that there isn’t any damage or faults, or missing parts or accessories. They might, however, come in new packaging.

Open box laundry appliances with minor scratches and dents, meanwhile, have small dings, marks, or dents on the back or sides of them. These are never on the front, and often not visible once the appliance is installed.

All open box laundry appliances come with the manufacturer’s warranty and must be scheduled for delivery within 14 days. But because they aren’t in sealed, unopened boxes, they are sold for a discount despite still being brand new.

Open box laundry appliances are available from all major manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, Maytag, Bosch, Electrolux, Kitchenaid, GE, Whirlpool, and Amana. And they come in a variety of finishes and materials, including white, platinum, grey, black, silver, stainless, and titanium.

What to consider when buying an open box laundry appliance

If you’re buying a perfect condition open box laundry appliance, you’ll save money while knowing that the laundry appliance is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and is in perfect, new condition. This can save you a ton when updating your laundry room while still providing a brand new appliance.

If you opt for scratch and dent open box laundry appliances, check where the scratch, ding, dent, or other cosmetic damage is. If it’s on the side, make sure it’s on a side that will be hidden. This might be the side of a washing machine that will be against the wall, for example, or the side of a dryer that is hidden next to the washing machine. If a stacked front-load washing machine and dryer pair are in a narrow space, both sides and the back might be covered anyway, so a scratch or dent doesn’t matter.
