Smart App Control:
*Only available on the latest version of Windows 11. In order to keep you as safe as possible, you must start with a fresh system. PCs that have been running previous versions of Windows must do a full reset of the Windows 11 operating system for the feature to work. Available in North America and Europe only.

Trade-in:
*Trade-In isn’t available in the following stores: Kelowna (BC) and Sudbury (ON) due to municipal by-laws; and isn't available in any Best Buy Express locations.

What are the key features of Windows 11

Microsoft had a number of goals with Windows 11, and many of these reflect our changed experience over the past year and a half.

The entire user interface has been freshened and simplified for a less cluttered, less stressful, and more intuitive experience. That includes default pastel colours, rounded window corners, and a more calming startup sound. Expect to be more focused and able to multi-task more effectively than ever, with a new Task Bar, Snap support for three-column layouts, and new, personalized, AI-powered widgets that keep you informed about the things you care about.

Working, learning, and interacting with friends and family have changed dramatically over the past year and a half. Many of us are doing so remotely, using a PC or laptop at home. When you install the Microsoft Windows upgrade, your experience is instantly optimized. Chat and calling with Microsoft Teams is built into the taskbar. Moving from device to device, the files you have been working on are automatically added to the Start menu. Easily toggle between desktops that have been set up for different scenarios such as work or gaming. The Microsoft Edge web browser is secure and fast.

Who doesn’t love gaming on their PC or laptop? It’s more popular than ever, and with Windows 11, Microsoft is making the experience better (and more integrated) than ever. The Xbox app is built into Windows 11, with support for Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the ability to download AAA PC gaming titles. PCs with Windows 11, an NVMe solid state drive, and DirectX 12 GPU will also be able to take advantage of the lightning-fast DirectStorage technology introduced with the Xbox Series X.

In addition, in a feature that will be rolling out shortly, Windows 11 computers will be able to run Android apps, which will be available directly from the Microsoft Store.

What is the difference between Windows 10 and Windows 11?

These two Microsoft operating systems are reflections of their time. Windows 10 was first released in 2015 and features like its Live Tiles showed off the increasing popularity of 2-in-1 devices.

With Windows 11, Microsoft is focusing on current priorities among PC users. These include hybrid/remote work and learning situations, ease of use, and the growing popularity of PC gaming. It also brings a freshened user interface that offers a higher degree of personalization while cutting the clutter. If you use a Windows tablet or 2-in-1 device, you’ll find that Windows 11 is even more tablet-friendly, including enhanced touch and stylus support, as well as coming support for Android apps.

How do you upgrade to Windows 11?

Here’s the good news. If your PC or laptop is running Windows 10, the Microsoft Windows 11 upgrade is free. After months of previews, the Windows 11 release date is now here. It began rolling out on October 5, starting with new devices, and will be available for all compatible Windows 10 devices by mid-2022. Download the free PC Health Check app from Microsoft to determine if your computer is compatible, then keep an eye on your system’s Windows Update Settings screen for a download prompt.
