FAQ About Jewelry Cleaners
Do you want to keep your jewelry sparkling and looking gorgeous for many years to come? If so, a jewelry cleaner may be your new best friend. Not sure what to look for in a jewelry cleaner? Here are the answers to some of the most common questions you may have.
Why should I use a jewelry cleaner?
Jewelry cleaners prevent dirt and tarnish from accumulating on your fine jewelry so they can look as sparkling and new as the day you bought them. They also offer convenience by allowing you to clean your precious accessories in the comfort of your own home.
What types of jewelry cleaners can I choose from?
Steam
Steam cleaners use pressurized steam to restore the natural shine of your jewelry. They generally feature a copper, nickel, or stainless steel boiler to heat water and a small nozzle. Steam comes out of the nozzle to remove dirt and dust found your jewelry.
Sterling silver polishing cloths
Sterling silver polishing clothes are chemically treated to get rid of rust on sterling silver jewelry. When enough pressure is applied, polishing cloths do a good job of getting into the grooves and recessed areas of rings, watches, bracelets, and more.
Ultrasonic
Ultrasonic cleaners use ultrasound to remove grime from your jewelry. Items are placed in a removable basket and submerged in a cleaner tank, which is filled with either tap water or a jewelry cleaning solution. When the motor is switched on, the cleaner produces ultrasonic vibrations. These vibrations penetrate the dirt particles on your jewelry and are able to clean parts of your jewelry that are hard to reach.
What do I need to consider before using an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner?
Make sure your jewelry can be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner before you use one. Softer gemstones and organic jewelry including opals, emeralds, turquoise, pearls, and amber can be easily damaged by ultrasound. Vibrating sonic waves can also dislodge loose stones from their settings so check to see if the stones in your jewelry are tightly fastened.
