The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus: Not just middle of the road

A ‘plus’ for all involved

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ lies in the middle of the vaunted S lineup for 2023 and stands out on its own because of it. A vibrant 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x flat display stands out for the vivid colour and brightness it outputs. The Adaptive 120Hz refresh rate always keeps things smooth on top of that. Protecting it all is Gorilla Glass Victus on both sides to provide this elegant device with some durability.

While the Gorilla Glass Victus offers robust protection, equipping your Galaxy S23+ with a case further enhances its resilience against daily mishaps. A carefully selected case not only fortifies your phone but also reflects your personal style, making it uniquely yours.

This phone also runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a powerful chipset capable of pushing more than just pixels on a screen. It’s what enables the Galaxy S23+ to run smoothly as a handheld mobile gaming device. Play games on it alone, or pair it with a controller to really see what’s possible when it’s time to play.

The latest camera features and image processing come with the improved overall performance. That means faster autofocus and better quality in low-light and night photos, as well as when recording video clips. Plus, you can download the Expert RAW app from the Galaxy Store, taking advantage of the full size of the image sensor by shooting 50-megapixel RAW photos to process and edit on popular programs like Adobe Lightroom.

Note that there is no S Pen support with the Galaxy S23+. That is a feature you will only find in the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

What does that ‘+’ get you?

There isn’t a significant gap between the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy 23, contrary to how the two models would have previously differed. The most obvious difference in this case is their respective sizes. The Galaxy S23+ has a larger display compared to the 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display in the Galaxy S23.

Samsung also slightly increased the size of the battery from 4,500mAh on the Galaxy S22+ to 4,700mAh on the Galaxy S23+. That’s considerably bigger than the 3,900mAh battery in the Galaxy S23. Additionally, that continues to be a factor for charging the phone because the S23+ is compatible with chargers up to 45W, while the smaller S23 is limited to 25W. Samsung no longer includes wall chargers in the box, so you are able to purchase any fast charger currently available to charge at the faster speeds.

Camera ready

The Galaxy 23+ has the same camera array and components as the Galaxy S23. That includes the 50-megapixel primary lens featuring improved nightography for those moments when you need a good shot in low light. Along with Expert RAW for those who have the expertise, there are several modes to shoot with for everyone to produce quality images. Try the Astrophoto and Multiple Exposures modes to really get creative.

The 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens is convenient to capture more of a scene in one frame, while the 10-megapixel telephoto lens has a 3x optical zoom that can get you closer to a subject with 30x hybrid zoom.

The selfie camera in the front gets its own upgrade with a new 12-megapixel sensor, up from the previous 10-megapixels. Super HDR now applies with 60 frames per second for more dynamic range and colour when it’s time to record your own selfie videos.

It’s easier to record better video this time, or at a higher resolution than before. The Galaxy S23+ can record 8K at 30fps, adding another option apart from 24fps. Improved stabilization and noise reduction should help create content at night or low-light settings to share real life-like imagery.
