Ron Wilson - President, Best Buy Canada
As president of Best Buy Canada, Ron Wilson guides the vision and strategic direction for the company’s operations in Canada. His leadership has been instrumental in implementing a connected in-store and online experience that builds long-term relationships with customers.
During his leadership the company has grown an expanded product assortment online, introduced reserve and pick-up in store, built a successful online marketplace launched Experience Stores and optimized delivery and fulfillment systems.
In 2019, Ron was named Retailer of the Year by the Retail Council of Canada, and while leading the company, Best Buy Canada has been named one of Canada’s and BC’s Top Employers for several years running and won the Omni-channel Award as part of the Retail Council of Canada’s Excellence in Retailing Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
Ron began his career at Best Buy over 30 years ago at a Future Shop store in Edmonton, Alberta, rising to president, in 2013. He has worked in senior positions in many key areas of the company, including merchandising, operations, marketing, and e-commerce giving him an in-depth knowledge of the overall business.
Ron is a visionary leader with such depth-of-experience of the consumer technology and retail industries that he has an ability to predict and stay ahead of industry trends. He believes in the importance of agility, empowering talented team members to create, test and pivot (when necessary) for the best business outcomes.
Bryan Kooistra - Chief Financial Officer
Bryan Kooistra is accountable for all financial aspects of the Canadian business, including financial planning and analysis, business and capital decision support, management reporting, and accounting. In addition to Bryan’s core CFO responsibilities, he also has P&L accountability for Best Buy Express stores and oversees legal, procurement, real estate, and financial services for the Canadian business.
Bryan has held a variety of leadership positions with Best Buy in the U.S. and China, supporting multiple areas from enterprise strategy, international finance, and joint venture management to omnichannel operations with extensive experience operating within U.S. store divisions and the U.S. digital channel (bestbuy.com).
During his tenure with Best Buy, Bryan has spearheaded initiatives including the Best Buy Express omnichannel partnership between Best Buy Canada and Bell Canada, the strategic repositioning of the International Segment including divestures of Carphone Warehouse (Europe), Five Star (China), and Best Buy Mexico, the reduction of the U.S. Segment’s annual corporate cost structure by $200 million as part of Best Buy’s Renew Blue turnaround program, and the construction of ROIC measurement and methodology for the U.S. digital portfolio.
He is recognized for leading through periods of turnaround and transformation, executing complex transactions, re-positioning businesses, and generating improved financial returns for shareholders. Bryan holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Thierry Hay-Sabourin - Senior Vice President, eCommerce, Marketplace and Technology
Thierry Hay-Sabourin oversees the company’s rapid growth in digital retail, technology infrastructure, and data and analytics. In 2023 Thierry also started leading Best Buy Canada’s AI strategy.
Under Thierry’s leadership, Best Buy Canada became the first bricks and mortar retailer to launch an online Marketplace. He has been instrumental in bringing Best Buy Canada’s total retail initiatives to life, such as launching online expanded assortment, reserve and pick up, multi-channel fulfilment, delivery promise, ship-from-store, digital price tags, and selling Geek Squad services online. He was also a key part of the introduction of the company’s online community forums, blog platforms, and being the first company in Canada to sell advertising on its site. In 2016 Thierry led the agile transformation of Best Buy Canada’s technology, eCommerce and data and analytics teams. These initiatives contributed to the company being awarded with ‘Best Omni-Channel Retailer Award’ at the Canada Post eCommerce Innovation Awards in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018, named winner of the ‘Omni-Channel Award’ at the 2016, 2017, and 2019 Retail Council of Canada Excellence in Retailing Awards, and named winner of the First Chairman’s Innovation Award in 2007.
By taking an experience driven approach, Thierry’s focus is to embrace change and lead the organization through innovation while empowering the teams he supports. Thierry holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and a graduate degree in eCommerce from HEC Montreal.
Mat Povse - Senior Vice President, Best Buy Retail and Geek Squad Services
Mat Povse oversees Best Buy Canada’s stores, Geek Squad services, Best Buy Business, Best Buy Warranty, Best Buy Membership and Monthly Subscription.
Mat leads the teams which were responsible for the launch of Membership, delivering acquisition and retention goals, as well as the development of Monthly Subscription, introducing the company’s market-based approach and launching the company’s small-format stores. He has helped usher in significant operational improvements in stores and services, while growing overall customer and employee engagement and NPS. In his previous role as vice president of merchandising, Mat was responsible for home theatre, audio, wireless, digital imaging and Geek Squad, and was instrumental in the development of the major appliances expansion in Canada, as well as ushering vendors through brand consolidation.
Mat has a passion for inspiring people, developing new and innovative programs and partnerships, and encouraging cross-functional collaboration. He holds a Bachelor of General Studies, Business and Liberal Arts from Simon Fraser University.
Angela Scardillo - Senior Vice President, Marketing, Customer Experience, Store Design & Health
Angela Scardillo leads brand and creative services, retail marketing, media, advertising, video and print production, loyalty and CRM, consumer insights, translation, store design, digital communications, customer care, and Best Buy Health.
Since joining Best Buy Canada's executive leadership team in 2010, Angela has led many innovative marketing initiatives for the company, including the navigation of the brand consolidation, the design and launch of industry leading Experience Stores, the launch and growth of Best Buy Ads, the redesign of customer call centres to deliver an all-time high NPS, the design of the new corporate office, the introduction of digital price tags, and the retirement of the company’s flyer and transition to a digital marketing strategy.
Angela's marketing career has spanned more than 30 years, including her time at DDB Canada, where she was managing director for DDB Kid Think and VP/director of client services. Angela is regularly featured as a marketing expert in media, has published articles on marketing and advertising, produced proprietary retail premiums and launched four youth publications.
Angela has a collaborative and hands-on approach, and a people-first leadership style, by building high-performing teams and empowering them to be strategic and creative. She attended Simon Fraser University and has an Advertising and Sales Promotion diploma from British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Chris Taylor - Chief Human Resources Officer
Chris Taylor oversees the company’s HR efforts, including its human resources information system, talent acquisition, training and development, DEI, employee relations, employment brand, change management, compensation and benefits, payroll, corporate facilities and mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
Chris has led the company through the implementation of Workday HCM, the introduction of hybrid work, numerous learning initiatives including Best Buy University, and the seamless relocation to the company’s modern office in Vancouver. During his time as CHRO, Chris was named in the Global 100 by HRD in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and Best Buy Canada’s HR team won the Canadian HR Team of the Year (Canadian HR Awards) in 2019 and 2021. In addition, Best Buy Canada has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 6 of the past 7 years and a BC Top Employer for the past 7 years.
Priding himself on authenticity and ensuring all team members can bring their true self to work, Chris is a champion of open discussion about mental health, diversity, inclusion and equity. He holds a CPHR designation, along with an EMBA from the University of Fredericton.
Jason Abrams - Senior Vice President, Merchandising and Fulfillment
Jason Abrams leads our merchandising and inventory strategy for all product categories, as well as overseeing our supply chain, distribution and service centres, and reverse logistics efforts.
Jason has fostered strong vendor partnerships through a collaborative approach and has introduced many exclusive programs and firsts into the Canadian market. In this role, he’s been the catalyst behind the growth of vendor partners onto our Marketplace, the introduction and development of the smart home category in Canada, the opening of the company’s appliance clearance centres in its two distribution and service centres, and the improvement of fulfilment experience and reliability by the diversification of partners. He also played a big part in his previous role in the transition of vendor relationships during the company’s brand consolidation,
As a leader, Jason creates a dynamic environment where team members are empowered to constantly learn and innovate. He holds an MBA from Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics – Exercise Science from the University of British Columbia.
Polly Tracey - Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer
Polly Tracey leads the organization’s public relations, internal communications, community investment, sustainability governance, events, influencer strategy, corporate communications and government relations functions.
As the founder and executive sponsor of the Best Buy Green Team and the Mentorship and Acceleration Program (MAP) for Black and Indigenous entrepreneurs and as executive lead for crisis management, she catalyzes cross-functional groups to solve challenges with an enterprise mindset and collaborative approach.
Polly has experience across North America, Europe and Asia - spanning some of the world’s best-known brands including American Airlines, Sony Music and Honda. She is known for driving creativity and innovation, while guiding companies through periods of significant growth and change. She was named Communicator of the Year by the Public Relations and Communications Association (Europe’s largest and most influential communications’ body) for 2013 – 2014, was a judge for PR Week’s Global Awards in 2019 and was named one Ragan/PR Daily’s Top Women in Communications in 2020.
A strong believer in positivity breeding productivity, Polly embraces challenges and relishes building effective strategy to help brands stand out and to enhance employee and community sentiment. Polly has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and International Politics from the University of Newcastle.
