A Message from Ron Wilson
We continue to be faced with a global event unlike anything we have experienced before. The world has been at a standstill for several weeks, and it could be this way for many more months.
At Best Buy Canada, we have reduced our operations so that we can fulfill the essential requirements of Canadians in a safe way. We are proud to have been able to support our communities, and we are thankful that we have been able to keep team members employed for as long as possible. We are doing everything that we can to sustain our business, so that we continue doing both these things as much as we can.
Since March 19, Best Buy has provided ongoing pay and benefits to store employees impacted by reduced store hours and the temporary closure of stores. A smaller workforce is required to operate the business under this new, interim operating model.
Best Buy Canada has made the difficult decision to furlough 6,500 people from our Retail and Distribution Service Centre teams. We believe they will all be eligible for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), and most of their corporate benefits will also continue as normal.
We sincerely hope that when we are through this, these colleagues will return to be part of Best Buy again.
I extend my personal thanks to our customers, communities and team as we navigate these challenging times.
Ron Wilson
